Microblading & Shading Review

Eyebrows on fleek 24/7

I struggled with uneven brows for ages, and I spent a lot of money on brow products to see if they will magically grow me some brow hairs. Unfortunately, most of the products were a fail and I ended up filling in my brows every day which is time-consuming.

While scrolling on my Instagram, I saw some pictures of something called Microblading and I was like “this looks pretty awesome”. Microblading continued to explode all over Instagram and that’s when I started to look further into it.

I did some digging on the Internet to compare the results of “before and after” photos and came across this Instagram account @brows_microblading, which also has a branch in Abu Dhabi @wellbrow_abudhabi. I LOVED their photos so I contacted their team and booked myself in to go see them. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant to try it, I wasn’t sure if they will last long enough or whether they will look good on me. I also didn’t know if I should try Microblading alone or shading or do both.

Microblading is a good first step to start with but it will not give you the full “brows on fleek” effect, however, a combination of Microblading and shading would produce fuller results and that’s what I wanted.

I envisioned my brows to look part feathery and part shaded. The combination of both techniques is perfect.

I asked Tania from Wellbrows some important questions about the procedure. Here is what you need to know about this popular beauty trend:

Let’s start by explaining what is Microblading and Shading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent technique used to create hairlike strokes to fill in the gaps in the brows. It’s different than tattooing as it only goes into the superficial layer of the skin opposed to tattooing which goes deep into the skin. On the other hand, Shading is done using a hand tool that creates powdered brow effect that resembles having makeup in your eyebrows. It’s like putting fine dots of pigment into the skin. The results of both techniques last about the same, which is for 1 year.

Does it hurt?

They apply numbing cream before they start the procedure, so don’t worry about pain. I personally didn’t feel any pain, perhaps a slight discomfort during the Shading procedure but it is completely tolerable.

Cleaning up before going in. Numbing cream is applied at this stage for the second time.

Would color change or vary if you were anemic (low on iron)?

According to Tania, high-quality pigments shouldn’t change color based on your iron levels. Although the color does fade gradually over time, the undertone doesn’t change.

The pigment stays on for few mins to let it set into the skin

How to take care of your brows after the procedure?

The aftercare is a very crucial part of the treatment. You have to follow the instructions fully:

  • You can’t get water on your brows for 8 days post-procedure. Avoid any vigorous activity that will make you sweat for that period of time.
  • Rinse your eyebrows with gentle soap and warm water 2-3 hrs after the procedure is done. That’s the only time you get water on them. Gently pat dry with a paper towel.
  • You can’t wear makeup in your brows during those 8 days. But you can do so after 8 days.
  • Peeling is a normal part of the healing process so don’t be alarmed. Try not to pick your brows during the 8 days. My eyebrows peeled on the 9th day but I was able to wash my brows on that day.
  • Your brows will lighten up considerably after 1-2 weeks post-procedure, so don’t worry If they were too dark at first, the color will lighten up eventually.

Is it worth it?

In my opinion, it’s worth getting done because it saved me a lot of time getting ready every day. It’s something I recommend to those who are on the go and want their eyebrows to always be on fleek! The results turned out amazing as you can see in the picture below and the video:

Is touch up necessary?

Yes, absolutely. The skin will try to push out the pigment the first time you get the procedure done, so it’s highly recommended to do so 1 month after the procedure.

Be inspired,

MM
