Seychelles – Tropical Paradise

Port Launay, Mahe

Seychelles oh Seychelles, you are truly a paradise. Fine white powder beaches with stunning turquoise blue waters, massive glacis boulders in the sand and breathtaking views of lush hills all around. It’s situated in the Indian Ocean where unspoiled nature is found at its finest.

Seychelles is known for luxury resorts and private getaways. It is also named “The Galàpagos of the Indian Ocean” for it’s unique wildlife and spectacular aquatic beauty. The water is one of the warmest and clearest waters I have ever swam in.

There are 3 languages spoken within the islands, which are Creole, French and English. People there are super warm and friendly, but taxi drivers can be unpredictable, some of the cars are in a very poor condition but like anywhere else in the world you have to negotiate before getting in. We found a good taxi driver who was really fair and had a well maintained vehicle (I’ll leave his contact info down below). They prefer Seychellois Rupee but they will take Euros at a slight premium.

We stayed on 2 different islands: Mahe and Praslin; we’re saving the island of La Digue for our next visit. Let’s talk about Mahe. Mahe is the largest island in Seychelles and you probably will land here first before going to the other islands, as it’s where the main airport is located. Mahe is known for its mountains and green hills, and over 60 stunning beaches.

We stayed at Constance Ephelia where they had 2 separate beaches with distinct views of Port Launay. I highly recommend this resort and it’s very family friendly. We had the best vegan meals here. We spoke to the head chef directly and he assigned us our own chef during our stay (Chef Minoj). The food was incredibly good; they looked after us so well, we literally had endless options to eat from which is not the case for us vegans when traveling. I’m pretty sure I gained a couple of pounds during my stay there. It is unforgettable.

Anse Lazio

Make sure to choose a resort that is located on the northwest side of Mahe. Step away from the airport area as far as possible. There are few waterfalls on the island but the ones we checked out weren’t worth the trouble of getting to them, so do your research if you plan to go.

Curieuse Island

The second island that we stayed on was Praslin. We had to take the ferry from Mahe to Praslin, which is about 1 hr to 1:30 ride depending on sea conditions. Our ferry ride was a bit rough but luckily it didn’t take long.

We stayed at Raffles Seychelles, which was one of the most pristine locations on the island. It’s closely located to one of the world’s best beaches Anse Lazio. I HIGHLY recommend it, although the food wasn’t great but the feeling of being in secluded nature with amazing views left, right and center is totally worth the stay. They also have a shuttle service to take you around the island or you can rent a car to discover different beaches on your own.

Anse Georgette beach

We rented a car to go to Anse Georgette beach and I’m so glad we did (see photos above of the beach). Getting to Anse Georgette wasn’t easy as it’s located on a hotel property (Lemuria resorts), so you do need to get permission to go in. The waves on this beach were crazy that day but I can still remember the soft cushiony warm feeling when my feet first touched the sand, a truly heart-warming experience!

We did some kayaking from Anse Takamaka to Curieuse Island to see the tortoise. They had hundreds of tortoises on that one island, it was awesome. The other side of Curieuse Island had a nice secluded beach with amazing views of the island. One of the locals offered to take us hiking the next day and it was so much fun. It’s a trip that we’ll always reminisce about and one that we’ll go back to.

Dancing Silhouette of me

Seychelles is a place where you go to soak up some sun, chill on the beach, sip on coconut water all day long, snorkel with the most colorful fish, beach hopping and watch amazing sunsets.

Don’t plan too much; just enjoy your time by taking it easy, inhaling in all the bountiful beauty.

Until next time, my beloved Seychelles.
